Flooding is a common occurrence in the Elk Valley, and it’s important to stay informed and prepared for flooding events. This page provides the Elk River Flood Strategy Report put together by the Elk River Alliance in 2016, and a presentation on flooding in the Elk Valley from 2023.
ELK RIVER FLOOD STRATEGY REPORT
In 2016 the Elk River Alliance completed a flood risk study and published the Elk River Flood Strategy report. The report includes:
- An analysis of flooding in the Elk Valley,
- Effects of flooding on the community,
- Effects of flooding on fish and wildlife (and mitigation options that improve habitat),
- Recommended Flood management strategies
- Information for local decision makers and community on flood strategy tools
FLOODING IN THE ELK RIVER PRESENTATION
On March 16, 2023 the Elk River Alliance held an information session on flooding in the Elk Valley. The talk covered flooding risks and mitigation measures, and how restoring riparian vegetation can decrease flood impacts. Almost 50 citizens came out to listen to the talk, and engaged in active discussion with ERA staff during the question period.
