A Leadership Update from the Elk River Alliance

The Elk River Alliance (ERA) announces that Chad Hughes has stepped down from the position of Executive Director after 6 years to pursue his Master’s in Environmental Practice and other career goals. He will remain with ERA in a technical advisory role during a transition period planned through year-end.
In his position, Chad built well-recognized programs in riparian restoration, water monitoring, and environmental education while developing strong partnerships and community presence for the organization. ERA has accomplished much under Chad’s leadership and this progress is a testament to the dedication he has shown throughout his tenure.

It’s been an honour to help grow the organization into a recognized local institution and to see firsthand the impact we have made across the watershed. Most of all, I’m grateful for the incredible people who supported the work over the years – our staff, board, volunteers, partners, donors and the rest of the Elk River community. I have enormous pride in the organization and the dedicated river community that surrounds it.
The organization and Executive Director role have grown and evolved significantly over the years, and this is the time for a new chapter. I’m looking forward to making space to pursue long overdue Master’s studies and new professional opportunities. I hope everyone who has supported us in the past will continue to support the important work ahead. The Elk River is the cornerstone for life here in the valley, and our communities have an important role to play in helping the Elk River Alliance continue to thrive.”

Ben Ingle is serving as Acting Executive Director, assuming overall leadership, management, and operational responsibilities. Chad will focus on supporting this season’s ongoing programs, reporting, and transferring organizational knowledge to ensure continuity and stability for our partners.
ERA’s Board and members recently approved a new strategic plan with our mission to “Unite, inspire and act with the Elk River community to care for the watershed” contributing to our vision of “a resilient Elk River watershed sustaining all communities and living things through shared stewardship.”
